Predictions for Sun in Cancer 2025
Astrologer Maureen Richmond, Ph.D.
The Sun entered the cardinal water sign of Cancer on June 20 at 9:42 pm CDT, initiating a month-long focus on home, family, land, nation, tradition, provision of necessities, and the need for both financial and emotional security. Like the crab who carries her home wherever she goes, Cancer concerns the safety of the self. Themes such as these would provide enough fuel for potent human experience all on their own, but throughout the period of Sun in Cancer 2025, a number of attention-getting astrological influences significantly complicate the brew.
The Saturn-Neptune Conjunction
The most powerful of these is the conjunction of Saturn and Neptune. Not reported in ephemeris material for June or July 2025, yet within a quarter of a degree of exactitude during these two months, this conjunction is the main driver of events throughout the Cancerian period even though it is technically not exact until early 2026.
However, Saturn and Neptune are well within range of conjunction to each other for two months either side of the 2025 Cancerian month. In fact, the two bodies are within one degree of zodiacal longitude of one another from mid-June through mid-August 2025, making the period June through August an interval filled with the implications of the re-start for the 36-year cycle of Saturn and Neptune.
The last time these two destiny makers met in conjunction, the year was 1989, the sign was stone-faced, authoritarian Capricorn, and as decisive Saturn merged with the dissolving power of watery Neptune, the result was the fall of the Berlin Wall, the disintegration of the former grimly strict Communist Soviet Union, and the end of the Cold War. This time around, as Saturn and Neptune merge, the year is 2025, the sign is contentious, zealous Aries, and yet another ideologically extremist regime (namely, Iran) teeters on the verge of collapse, possibly ending the war between the West and state-sponsored terrorism rooted in Islamic theology. Saturn the Terminator brings endings and Neptune the Absolver washes away the detritus.
The Saturn-Neptune conjunction changes paradigms, and the current version is no different in this regard. As the pragmatism and pessimism of Saturn blend with the idealism and expansive vision of Neptune, something has to give. Although the potential for fanaticism certainly resides in the religiosity associated with Neptune, so does a cosmic perspective – just the kind which might make Earth humanity look far out into the Milky Way to understand its place in that galactic context.
A whole new world view is therefore in the making right through the entire period of Sun in Cancer 2025. Although the call of Cancer leans toward balling up in the cozy cocoon of homelife and habit, the big developments of the Saturn-Neptune conjunction interject themselves. It’s a time of deep contemplation on the purposes of life and incarnation.
Mars in Fastidious Virgo
At the same time, Mars has just recently departed outspoken Leo, where it generated bombast, hyperbole, and pageantry. The brazen shows of force consistent with Mars in Leo now give way to somewhat more modest proposals with Mars in Virgo. Throughout the Cancerian period, Mars in dutiful Virgo calls each and all to dig into the details and make practical the panoramic declarations of power and potential issued while Mars was in grandiose Leo. The world is still adjusting to this shift, tooling down from high drama to daily doings. With Mars in Virgo June 17 – August 6, small steps toward desired results are in order. The grand plan was visioned earlier; now comes the application of that idea at the ground level.
Mercury Madness
Then there’s Mercury, soon to have its way with mind and matter during another foray into retrograde zodiacal motion. Counting the formal retrograde plus shadow periods, the entire period from June 30 through August 25 will be affected. During the Cancerian month, then, the effects of the coming retrograde period begin to be sensed. Such will begin as early as June 30, when Mercury enters the degrees of the zodiac which will be affected by formal retrogradation. Then, on July 17, Mercury turns retrograde at 16 degrees of Leo. This means that by late June, alterations of path, direction, plans, and objectives start to enter the picture, and then they ramp up into full tilt revisioning by July 17. That is sure to stir the pot.
Uranian Changes
Add yet another factor: wild card Uranus. While Saturn, Neptune, Mars, and Mercury do their own dance, Uranus adds a note of change was well. Now wrapping up its nearly 7 years in the sex, food, money, and finance sign of Taurus, revolutionary Uranus is in the 29th degree of Taurus during half of the Cancerian month, temporarily edging over into informational Gemini on July 7, where it will stay through early November.
Starting on July 7, then, there will begin a four-month preview of the trends to come when Uranus enters Gemini to stay for nearly 7 years in 2026. As a result, half-way through the Cancerian month, some of the incessant themes about sexuality, interruptions of the food supply, and forced changes in the financial systems are likely to die away temporarily. In their places will come vigorous public debate and wildly futuristic ideas of all manner and type. Modes of transportation will be featured. Satellites, drones, flying cars, and space vehicles will emerge as the frontiers of action. Transgenderism, a Uranus in Taurus phenomenon, will be less contentiously debated, though that controversy is likely to return when Uranus retrogrades into Taurus later this year for a last fling.
The Squares Dominate
The key period for the Cancerian month in 2025 began on June 15 and runs through June 26. During that period, Jupiter squares Saturn and Neptune, the Sun conjuncts Jupiter and squares both Saturn and Neptune, and the New Moon on June 25 does the very same, conjuncting Jupiter and squaring both Saturn and Neptune. Thus, the entire second half of June 2025 is saturated with astrological tension, signifying a time when destiny-making decisions will be made both at the collective and individual levels. A quick look at news headlines verifies that contention. Historic deliberations and agreements will be made at the level of international relations. There, the tensions written into the massive Jupiter squares to Saturn and Neptune describe and symbolize the warring forces of ambition (Jupiter), realism (Saturn), and ideology (Neptune).
